A black swan is imminent

California is about 80 years overdue for the Big One. What is the Big One? The Big One is a massive earthquake prediction by seismologists set to occur along the southern San Andreas Fault, in California, which would impact cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles and Palm Springs. It is predicted to be of magnitude 9.0 or greater.

oh n-

How do I reply to a specific website on this website?

igger

imagine how therapeutic that would be for people living in california

Will I be able to afford a house there after the big one or still no?

According to the latest data, the timeline for this events occurrence will be greater than 13 days, and less than 15. (P of

Housing prices will not decline in the next 15-25 years as they are part of a program called "population control". Increased housing prices = declining birthrate. The Western elite has learned these lessons from the Japanese housing bubble and the subsequent birthrate collapse.

Los Angeles will be fucked. The city is built upon a foundation of sand, which will completely liquefy in a 9.0 earthquare. Not to mention the resulting tsunami which will be the killing blow seeing as the entire LA basin is less than 100 feet in elevation. As someone living in SoCal, I pray it happens in my lifetime.

Good hopefully the destruction and ensuing aftermath wakes me up from my depression

I wish it'd take the whole godforsaken southwest and mexico along with it.
No more border hopping squatemalans.

you ever see rich people give a shit about climate change? fuck no they build mansions on the waters edge

If this thing took out California and southwestern BC, we might act have a chance. But they've been saying it'll happen soon for 30 years, so... Two more weeks

Masonic satanists rape, torture, and brainwash children in order to use as actors later posing as politicians and public figures to manipulate public opinion. Almost everything that happens if fake, WWE style.

They had a medium one in 1989 that relieved most of the pressure. There's no big one coming anytime soon.

Clean the gay and feces and needles away.

Don't do this user...don't give me hope.

Lord in heaven who gave us your son thank you for your priceless gift. We are not worthy of your love at this point in time as we defile your commands. Jesus Christ peace be upon him, our holy savior grant us a blessing that our penance be paid to you and our holy father. Paid with the blood of the sinners and hedonistic evil inhabitants of the left coast. May the wretched be cast asunder the grounds and the the waves of the seas you have bestowed upon our gracious earth as repayment for our actions to silence your order. May this day come soon under your watchful gaze. Protect those who accept you into their hearts and seek your forgiveness and name. Amen.

Thank god. Just end it all already.

Actual seismologist here; most of my work is on the Cascadia thrust fault range, which is a whole other bag of dicks to contend with. Long story short, the Western US is building up towards multiple different seismic events of a scale that will make tens of millions simply vanish in moments (see the New Madrid quake for another event where entire towns simply stopped existing).

However, the San Andreas fault is likely a dead fault. It has a large "kink" in it and decades ago, we thought this would allow pressures to build up ever higher. It turns out though that the pressure simply cannot build to a level that could cause it to slip in a mega-event and instead the energy goes towards the path of least resistance and is usually dissipated harmlessly in traditionally rural areas. However, my thesis work in school was on the fault systems of the Owen's valley. It's a bit more complicated than I can put in here, but it's essentially a thrust-fault system that dwarfs the San Andreas, and runs from just south of Death Valley all the way into Reno. The compression & tensional forces it's under are also skyrocketing.

I don't fear mega-quakes really, but the Owen's valley always sits in the back of my mind, because there's a blind fault that runs right down 4th St and can actually be seen exposed through road cuts at the corner of 4th and McCarran. Seismic activity has shown it's related to the Owen's valley fault complex, we just don't quite understand how yet. I just know that fucker is going to go and when it does, my happy ass goes with it.

Earthquakes cannot be black swan events in California as they are expected.
And the term usually applies to finance.

High impact, low probability events are probable within an almost perfectly unpredictable data set (e.g world economy), however so is the nature and structure of such an event. In other words the most likely next event is what would otherwise seem to be the most mundane, neither likely nor unlikely event, but one which has a vectorial event unlike anything previously seen

Me too. It would really stimulate the economy.

cool
don't care
