first and foremost, we speak slavic langauge so ofcourse we are slavs.
us being goths comes from two very important mediaval sources: dukljan chronicle (12th century) and historia salonitana (13th century). reasons two authors of mentioned works consider us goths is because they had no knowledge of arrival of slavs, but they did know of Gothic kingdom from 6th century. So hurr durr we must've been goths who (according to them invited slavs and so it became a slavic kingdom)
more accurate source on arrival of slavs is de administranto imperio written by byzantine emperor constantin VII, 10th century
>what are we genetically or whatever
different story. mostly still slavic, with a sizeable pre-slavic native romance speaking population (aka vlachs), i'd say 35-40%. there's a big amount of newcomer czech, slovak, german and other influence too (in pannonia). naturally, maybe there are some traces of goth as well
>the name croat (hrvat)
this is where it gets interesting. name "hrvat" (croat) isnt slavic, it's most likely iranic and it would imply croats were once a sarmatians that ruled over slavs and eventually slavicized
Mostly rubbish people
> first and foremost, we speak slavic langauge so ofcourse we are slavs.
we're all speaking english right now, actually, and I'd venture to say none of us are English or British
> this is where it gets interesting. name "hrvat" (croat) isnt slavic, it's most likely iranic and it would imply croats were once a sarmatians that ruled over slavs and eventually slavicized
Yes. Nearly every Croat, Serb and Bosnian has the steppes tribes in common. It's the european tribes where it starts to differ.
see (half croat half ethnic bosnian from slavonia).
So either my cousin's sample there means his Bosnian side has Gothic admix or his Croatian side has Gothic admix. As you can see, there's also some Slavic genetics, but they're old and date back to between the 9th and 13th century.
Some Kievan Rus nobility moved from the region when Mongols started attacking and a dude butchered one of the timing of one of the first major counter-invasions.
