9th circuit ruled medical marijuana card holders who also own firearms are in violation of federal law. That applies just as well to a firearm owner who chooses to purchase recreational marijuana in places where it is legal.
The wording is "unlawful user, or addicted to" so if it is legal you are probably fine. It would be hard to prove addiction.
They also include "stimulant" in this. If they wanted to, they could say caffeine addiction is grounds for denial.

This could happen in the future, it's one reason why I don't have a medical marijuana card despite it being legal in my state. That being said, I've used my ID to buy legal weed in other states, and I've never had a problem buying a gun. But I do think this could be a backdoor form of gun control, better to be safe than sorry. The less lists you are on, the better
