I've been saying this for months now, but one of the main purporses of the special military operation is to give Russian troops some real combat experience in a controlled manner. Casualties have been minimal and this campaign has been precise and deadly. Basic Russian troops are learning more about warfare than decades of American/NATO teaching can do.
So not only are they giving their troops some of the best experience of fighting a near-peer (but inferior) armed force. NATO is also playing into this by sending equipment, therefore giving Russians even better experience of fighting against NATO gear, AND also allowing stuff to be captured and reverse engineered by Russian scientists/engineers so that direct counters can be made. Whereas Russia has not sent any of its advanced weaponry to Ukraine at all meaning that NATO still doesn't understand Russian capability.

I actually agree with most of this. The type of warfare the Russians is heavy restrained. And their use of tanks and infantry without bombing the objective first shows a limited warfare type. Conversely the US drops bombs,hits from long range then sends troops in. This seems much more like a type of live fire extended experience especially for field officers and NCOs

This is basically it. If Russia was actually trying to fight, they would reveal their capabilities to NATO and that would confer no military advantage. Therefore they are using a much more subdued approach in Ukraine in order to minimise casualties and maximise efficiency. Like you said, it's basically just an extended live fire experience for soldiers, officers, and NCOs.

Missiles are a blunt instrument user. Gbu style bombs are far more effective and useful means of clearing dug in defenses,combined with mass infantry and armor advances. Doing these things takes real world experience no amount of training can do that.

I’ve thought the same thing from the beginning as well. What I don’t understand is why he let the west equip Ukraine with so many anti-and weapons prior to the invasion. Remember before the invasion when the news was constantly talking about how many weapons the UK and shot were shipping? Why did he just sit there and let it happen? He knew he was going to invade, right (obviously), so why let your enemy prepare so well for it? It made no sense, and is the main reason why I think Putin is on all this shit.
