This is going to be me soon. I think I might lose my job in the economic downturn and rents+housing show no sign of letting up their 20% YoY increase. I can't justify living alone without a decent ($120k+) income where I live in Ontario. But it looks like it will be very difficult to get that kind of job once the economy starts to tank.

Mom kicked me out and said go out and experience life, and under her breath she said "get laid" and it was good advice. I didnt get laid much tho. But when I did it was cool and I was the only young person of my friends who had his own place so my apartment became home base. It was fun.

Same for me, I was already looking around for a place, I had some savings, not the best job but enough to get a loan, parents were ready to help if needed. Then the situation started getting worse, so we decided to wait, and thank fucking god, some people already pay 50%+ more monthly then like half a year ago, and are actually truly fucked.
Instead of moving out we are just renovating the attic to make a room + toilet there. Frankly, I don't mind any of that, we always had good family relations, we all see what's happening with economy, and I still don't owe the jews any money.

Depends where you live. I live in Ottawa, tiny bachelor studios are like $1700+/mo in rent now. Doesn't include utilities or parking. Cost of everything is through the roof. I make north of $120k right now and my biweekly paycheque after tax cuts and some taken out for RRSP and stuff is still way less than $3000. You can average at least $2,000 / mo for utils + rent + parking in a mediocre apartment where nothing is maintained. That's already above 33% of my monthly take home which is the guideline for rent. Lots of people pay closer to 50% for rent nowadays so there's that, but why not just live with my parents at this point? I can save so much money by sharing groceries and other expenses with them,and help my parents out because they are getting older.

$50k as a single male is absolutely brutal if you live in Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, etc.
