That's a 1 hour 40 minute video. You expect people to sit through that and then talk about it? How about you BTFO yourself.
>pseud loses argument to nobel prize winner
wow
Roger Penrose is far smarter than Jordan Peterson will ever be

What's the proposition being debated?

I don't hate jbp he just rarely says anything interesting or of note and his ideas about IQ barely tread water

how was he btfo exactly?

>Guest: you can't compute consciousness, it is non-linear
>Peterson: But what if it is linear?
The first 8 minutes, after that Peterson starts to turn off and flies into space.
Jordan Peterson is essentially a recovering stroke victim. What did you expect?
You have absolutely no grounds for saying that.

Taleb is wrong about IQ though.
IQ is a good predictor for a variety of life outcomes, including income, education, job performance, criminality, longevity, and general health.
Can we strangle both of them? Yes, consciousness is non-linear (almost everything in the brain is; that's how neurons fucking work) but that doesn't make it non-computable.
It's much more of a matter of how to scale things up, which is a really tough problem because the brain has a very large number of neurons and many times more synapses. And it's self-modifying hardware, of course. Nobody builds computers like that. Yet.
>And it's self-modifying hardware, of course. Nobody builds computers like that. Yet.
Certain FPGA products literally do that

You're retarded, he didn't get BTFO, just didn't entirely grasp what Penrose meant with certain terms. Yes, same word means different things depending on your field and contextualized perception. Penrose would have btfod him if he knew and claimed to know most of what was asked, which didn't happen. If anything, Penrose correctly stated an unpopular opinion amongst post modern scientists, which is that we couldn't entirely know the answer due to the nature of our perception being embedded into an existing system. Bohr, many other physicists and the classical Greeks understood that the role of science and physics is not to describe how nature is, but how we perceive the nature. There's a subtle difference that requires being humble and understanding the subject in question.
thats not a debate
>t. doesn't actually know what computable means
who is this dude
why should I care if he is a brainlet
>Juden Peterstein
Why do you cucks still worship this shabbos goy?
He's a clinical psychologist who helps people work through their issues - where did the world/he get the idea that he's supposed to be an expert on everything?
>Taleb is wrong about IQ though.
How so? His calculations hold. You get huge random terms affecting IQ when you look at the eigenvalues of the covariance matrix. Watch this vid where he explains it better youtube.com
IQ's correlation is non-linear, there's no way around it as the math holds. It's not an argument, it's been proven mathematically.
>the role of science and physics is not to describe how nature is, but how we perceive the nature
wrong. The role of science is to make increasingly more accurate predictions. That we can't perceive objective reality is true but has nothing to do with science. That's philosophy. Interpretations of scientific results, i.e. "how we perceive nature", is all philosophy.
because they're all autists incels
important to note that taleb says IQ's predictive power is passable for 100 and below, it describes mental retardation quite well
That is the question, is it possible to create a non-linear system with a linear system?
In any case, you can create a chaotic one with an orderly system and possibly vice versa.
>Certain FPGA products literally do that
Not on the scale that neurons do it. You don't reconfigure your FPGA every few milliseconds (assuming you're running multiple neurons on that silicon; there's no reason not to).
stop trying to drag other boards into your pol garbage eceleb discussions
>is it possible to create a non-linear system with a linear system?
No, but neither neurons nor transistors are linear.
That is the point. Our linear systems are built on top of the chaotic life.
He's some dizzy Canuck who mixed common self-help advice with some batshit insane mythological nonsense which managed to get the alt-right/incel jackoffs all riled up.
Later on, he got addicted to benzos and was put in a medically induced coma as part of some botched Russian psuedoscientific rehab procedure. You know, the sort of thing you want to see from someone offering life advice.
Why this walking trainwreck of a person is even wading into this topic, despite having less knowledge about it than your average retard on Any Forums, is beyond me.
transistors are linear
He meant the switching itself, not the Boolean algebra on top.
>conservative sad retards as idols
Peterson is not even remotely "conservative" in the North American context. Most of what he does is focused on helping young men sort their lives out.
>self-help advice with some batshit insane mythological nonsense which managed to get the alt-right/incel jackoffs all riled up.
I mean sure, that is the manner in which corporate media portrays him.

It's so tiresome. Why does anyone give a shit what this guy has to say outside of psychology? He's good at telling stories I guess, I could see the appeal if your dad walked out on you before he could tell you bed time stories.
