i see russians on here daily who say practically nothing in russia has changed. inflation is up, food is more expensive, but on a similar level to what we're experiencing in the USA.

Everything except petroleum exports (which were 70% of Russia's export) is getting crushed. They're burning through foreign holdings and hold reserves trying to protect the currency from crashing.

Sanctions hit Russia and did some damage, yet Russia is still here and can function in complete isolation in the worst case scenario.
Mainly thanks to the first rounds of sanctions in 2014 that prompted the country to start to internalize everything.
If France would have been hit by 1/10th of those sanctions if will simply devolve in complete anarchy thanks to our traitor government that killed most of our industry in favor of a "service oriented economy", aka useless garbage when shit hit the fan.

This war is a disaster for the Russian economy. They're propped up by oil prices increasing but at the same time they've been having to sell it on discount. The wave of sanctions from all their Western trading partners is not a source of economic gain for them. It's been a catastrophe for their private sector. Everyone is losing their jobs and have no financial security.

That being said, Russia will grind Ukraine down I think. I doubt they will try to take Kiev again but they will claim a huge swathe of its eastern territories and maybe even make Ukraine a landlocked country. Russias economy is still in the process of collapsing and eventually itll reverse and begin rebuilding but it'll be under a new structure relying on trade relations from countries like India and China buying their petroleum export. It was 70% of their export before and brings in a lot of revenue when the price is good. If the west really wanted to hurt Russia they'd permit drilling everywhere to get non Russian reserves online.

Calling inflation the "Putin Price Hike" seemed like an easy way to weasel out of responsibility for crashing the economy but more and more people are starting to ask why we're involved in Ukraine at all. Each time a person buys groceries or gas and see the ever increasing prices, they now think it's due to us being involved with Ukraine. Expect to see more and more pressure mount for disengaging as virtue signaling is only fun when it's no cost. Before the "Putin Price Hike", there were lots of things the administration could blame inflation on but now it's tightly associated with Ukraine and Biden's choice to involve us there.
