Russia was taking it easy on them there for awhile. Then you have to remember UKR had a shit ton of troops in Donbass for the offensive they had planned against DPR/LPR before Russia entered the country. These troops were all dug in and had good defensive positions. Took awhile to root them out and keep Russian losses minimal.
The rats are out of the walls now and the pretenses they have a chance have been abandoned, so you're hearing more and more about them getting whooped.
