Kind of, but not really. The major difference in this picture is the woman in this picture was regulated through a serious of "soft controls" to act right. This started with a significant number of women in these days being virgins (forget the number but I think it was 40-80%) at marriage. And if said woman started to get sideways, with a neighbor or something, then everyone else would show up at said neighbors house and beat the shit out of the neighbor, and then the wife. If she got out of line again, if she had a job they'd fire her. And if she tried to get hired in that town after that, she was pretty much unemployable by any place that wasn't a sweatshop. Basically women leaving marriages was made as difficult as possible. Today? She'll have 10-20 people literally telling her to leave her husband in passive and active language WHILE she's married. If she files for divorce, she'll be showered in affection. That's the biggest change. Another big difference here was the abililty to raise a family on one income. Much harder these days. All in all, you can do it... I'm doing it... but you certainly have to be willing to be hyper dominant so that she knows her place and you have to be willing to risk it all.
