I was a babby back then, but we lived not too far away in CO at the time. My parents always recounted it as an embarrassing failure of the police to intervene, due to the unprecedented tactics. Dozens of different jurisdictions & hundreds of cops showed up on scene to that one and did nothing for hours as well. I believed that narrative until I saw the same excuse on this one. A single story elementary shcool, a 'barricaded' suspect behind a classroom door with a shot out window? And not ONE of those dozens of trigger happy mutt cops got a bright idea for over an hour?
