I had no problem communicating in English in Paris. I just had to buy extra tax bc I'm German, they are still butthurt about WW2 - which I am accustomed to when on vacation, so nothing special here. People were friendly as I tried to greet them in French and ask if the spoke English before unloading my badly accented island monkey language.

I actually thought something was wrong (like when everyone at school is laughing when you walk by and later you find out someone taped “I’m a faggot” to your back), but no, they were nice, and everyone outside of Paris I met who wasn’t from Paris, and half of those who were, hated Paris and Parisians with a passion.

I've been in Marseille once. I arrived in the main station and I decided to walk until my hotel in Vieux Port. I was prepared for listen a lot of Arab on streets, but the issue is that I didy listen French AT ALL. Also, Marseillaise Square became literally an African fair.
Unfortunately I was alone and I couldn't try bouillabaisse, but those navettes are fucking delicious.
