It's partly true. The long term contracts the EU has with Russia for energy are far lower than the spot price today. If Russia were to sell the same resources at spot (how much they can sell remains to be see, but give that the number one nation for industrial production has no sanctions on russia it's probably quite a bit) they'd probably increase revenue. They would have to face a temporary revenue reduction as they re roite resources and find new buyers, but even with lower sales volume if they sell at spot they still increase profits
