Nuclear weapons are a thought experiment, the original psyop was known as "ice-nine", where a single drop of this stuff would freeze the entire ocean at room temperature.
This false idea was scrapped for another false idea, the idea that you could achieve an uncontrollable chain reaction with fissile material, which is also not possible (since you need a stable moderator to allow the reaction to occur).
