Your best bet is trying to get it together for a few days at the frontline and be exemplary soldier. With the shortages of trained officers, they can give you a small squad of 4 dudes to command ... then volunteer for a recon mission, deal with the 4 dudes somehow [or take them with you] and walk over to the russian line.
