The Egyptians also had their own methods, presumably involving heating up the granite with fire as a lot of wood charcoal and ash was found at the Aswan quarry as well as bricks charred only on one side (used to built the fire pits). Archeologists could only get through a couple of millimeters of granit using egyptian tools on a cold surface, but got through 20cm on heated up granite. Now if you consider it took months if not years to excavate a single obelisk using hundreds of workers, it doesn’t seem that magical anymore.
