This off duty dude heard about it and had time to drive 40 miles to walk in and take care of it. The entire time the kids are begging for help trapped in a classroom being executed one by one. The police stand around in the hallway waiting foe the shooter to finish and hopefully off himself so all they have to do is some paperwork.
