The suicidal ideation is entirely unfounded and was a political decision by the FDA. There is literally no evidence that antidepressants cause suicide. HOWEVER, what antidepressants do for someone with depression is alleviate the depressed state enough to give them motivation to carry out suicide, which is why antidepressants are supposed to be taken alongside psychotherapy, and not independently.
