What makes Taiwan so important to the US they give a defence guarantee wich means war with China? As far as I know there aren't that many guarantees of that sort issued outside of the NATO treaty. Also Japan and South Korea?
What makes Taiwan so important to the US they give a defence guarantee wich means war with China...
Just like Japan, its a nice place to assert dominance in Asia
we don't have a defense guarantee with Taiwan, that was Joe Biden saying that we did, the demented fuck.
It's an unsinkable aircraft carrier off the coast of China.
biggest producer of semiconductors in the world.
can't believe you don't kno this.
whatever,
go figure.
When Japan surrendered in ww2, America took custody of Taiwan and gave it to the Republic of China who were fighting the communist party of China in a civil war. Given the roc had no land, no people and no weapons, the USA promised to support them with weapons and money to ensure that the commies would not attack them. The USA then invested in Taiwan, the roc, to show that communism didn't work and the American capitalist way was the way of the future.
Hence taiwan island has loads of gays. America continues to protect it because it said it would. It is strategically unimportant, geographically difficult to live on and resource low. But in 1945 America made a promise and they will keep it.
The issue is no longer commies versus capitalist but USA hegemony Vs belt and road or dollar versus yuan
Ever played Civ 6 and you have good trade routes to a city state that you aren't suzerain of, but still have a lot of envoys at? And then a computer player (China) invades and destroys it? Now all of those surrounding water tiles you aren't allowed to go through.
This, as far as I know they're like chinks, only everything they make is important and doesn't break down instantly.
Semiconductors
Semiconductors
Chip manufacturing. Taiwan will remain strategically necessary for the USA until they have constructed their own semiconductor plants.
its a barrier and a bargaining chip it has against china. when thats lost China will rule the asian seas and beyond.
It's important to the US for the same reason that Cuba is important to Russia. It's an island located near a strategic rival that can serve as a base.
third post best post
Two reasons:
1. Taiwan is the largest exporter if semiconductors, and the only country that has the facilities to manufacture sub 7nm chips (and i believe they are about to roll out 3nm shortly).
2. The US has military bases in south korea, japan, taiwan, and philippines. this forms a strategic naval barrier along china's entire coast, and the US can wield power over china by blocking entry and exit to their country by sea if it came down to it. Taiwan is the centerpiece of this barrier, and if it were to be taken by china, china would have an open path for their naval vessels to pass through into the pacific, and leaves the US west coast vulnerable to attack by sea.
Godzilla really lives under Taiwan you fools
Because kikes are orchestrating world war 3 to fulfill prophecy.
>what makes Taiwan so important to the US
First it procuses avout half of the worlds micochips, including most of the top of the line ones.
Second it'd give China a foothold in the pacific, so is useful for containing it.
Third it's be a great symbolic victory for China, and an equally great defeat for the US. It'd be China finally taking the island America so long ago denied them (under threat of nuclear retaliation). Reunifying the country and finishing off the last remnant of what came before them.
Also they buy a lot of weapons.
Taiwan is what China would've been if the communists hadn't have won. Instead of the perpetual toxic haze, buildings with walls made of corncobs and man-made horrors beyond comprehension that you find in China, Taiwan is just a regular, developed country with healthy manufacturing and tech industries. On par with Singapore and Japan in terms of living standards, as opposed to Nigeria or Belarus.
The CCP can't have these fuckers across the strait, reminding CCP subjects that there are other Chinese living better lives without the CCP.
Strategic ambiguity is drawing the line for ww3 in invisble ink.
The Americans hope that China will invade Taiwan so that they can isolate and sanction China the same way they did with Russia for the invasion of Ukraine. So the Americans will keep sending weapons, visiting officials, promote Taiwan partecipation in international organizations, recognizing Taiwan more independence status until China will invade. Then they can cut China out of the EU and five eyes markets.
Unlike the shit happening between Russia and Ukraine, an attack on Taiwan by China would indeed draw the US into direct military conflict (and possibly trigger WW3). see point #2 in
Semiconductors are irrelevant to the situation and the only people who think they matter are opinionated brainlets
>and the US can wield power over china by blocking entry and exit to their country by sea if it came down to it.
Hence the pivot to land trade with the belt & road.
yea thats correct
Thanks for the answers guys
Absolutely
>Semiconductors are irrelevant to the situation
What are guided missiles?
What are computers?
What is the automotive industry?
nothing, it's just a place to do the dirty money laundry for the democrate like the ukraine
Technology sector, historic relations, and strategic location.
Microchips. Also, it's a matter of principle.
Do you think PRC is stupid enough to take the bait?
Semiconductors
/thread
Geo-political relevance
same with Ukraine if it looses to Russia, combined with loosing Taiwan ... US won't be seen as relevant as it was.
and it's not good for the western world, for us
Taiwan is literally the only country in the world that can produce 5nm chips. They produce the vast majority of the worlds high quality chips. If war broke out and they were unable to continue production the entire world as we know it would collapse.
Now tell me what of value do the Fr*nch contribute to society?
Congratulations. You've made the dumbest post on site today.
TSMC
Holy fuck man get a clue
TWSC
USA is more important to China than China is to USA (and also more important than Taiwan is to China).
Irrelevant.
The current situation with Taiwan is strategic not economic.
The US were about to abandon the KMT before the Korean war because they expected to establish their core military presence in Korea to control China.
When China prevented that they went all in on Taiwan.
Taiwan, as said is effectively a natural aicraft carrier for the US ever since the DPP took power.
The US also conducted influence operations to sink the KMT because the KMT is pro reunification/pro 1998 consensus, and massive psyop on the Taiwan population to separate them from China, Tsai has been fucking with the consensus since then.
It's used as the tip of the spear of the pivot to Asia by the US administration, because Taiwan will break all treaties and agreements signed within the mainland and Taiwan strait framework and the China will be blamed for any reaction.
It's bith military and diplomatic.
Semiconductors are at best germaine to the wider situation.
