The problem of modernity is that the liberalisation of the sexual marketplace has made it more competitive. Women are naturally biased to only choose the top tier men for breeding, they would only settle for less if economic or societal circumstances forced them to, e.g. due to expectations of their family, or because economic need forced them to settle for an average man because the top tier men were already taken. Modern media, para-social relationships with celebrities, as well as most importantly dating apps give women the impression that top tier men were easily available. Women from the middle class are typically economically well-off and the influence of social customs, religion is waning globally, resulting in them holding out, trying their luck on dating apps to score a top tier man rather than settle for an average guy in their immediate vicinity, like they would in the past. Men are generally less picky, so a top tier guy wouldn't mind having sex with an average girl, except that he would never commit to a relationship. Pre-marital sex no longer being frowned upon means that top tier men are no longer incentivised to commit to a relationship in order to have sex and at the same time, average women are driven to put-out in order to even have top tier guys look at them and thus gain the competitive edge over higher tier girls through promiscuity. It is not a coincidence that better looking girls are often more prude and less likely to put out than worse looking ones - they don't have to.
