Tbh they should put metal detectors in every school, there’s 100k public schools in America, a good metal detector costs $2k, that’s a couple hundred million for the federal government to put them in every school across the country. The old way of making things safe was to make sure everyone got married off. The problem is the friendless people who married had lots of kids and abused their kids. Old societies didn't know that mattered. They were "hard" and "strong" and thought kids should "toughen up"... This might be the origin of a mystifying phrase I was confronted with: "God wants to be treated like an abused child." Because marrying off everyone was "God's work," or perhaps because friendless people were a "God" who would create generational cycles of abuse as their kids grew up to be friendless people who had to be married off for safety's sake.

Modern people care an awful lot about childcare quality. Modern people care more about childcare than about having kids at all. Can you understand that? Our society is overpopulated. We can't keep marrying off friendless people who will have too many kids. People are horrified at the amount of child abuse that results.

So the more modern strategy is to try to make sure everyone has friends. Just friends. People can care a lot about their friends. The connections are real and bring a lot of stability with them. People don't have kids with their friends and friend networks stop way more child abuse than they cause, see?

And all along the problem wasn't that people weren't getting their crotches moistened. It was that they weren't making enough friends. The modern way is better.

It's just very difficult. The people who weren't making friends are... you know... hard to find friends for.
