Back in the day there was no Judaism, just the faith of Abraham and later the Israelites. At the time Jesus came there were 3 main sects, The Essenes (The only ones native to Judeah), the Sadduccess and the Pharisee (both being not native to Judeah).

For true virtue to arise from a deed there must have been a choice to not do the deed. For some action to be truely good it is necessary that can you not do it, a possibility to choose wrong. From this possibility free will is created, the abillity to choose wrong and against our creator. So Evil is nothing God has created, but by giving us the chance to commit it he gave us a chance to do good and be virtues. Now he could stop us in our evil ways any moment but that would be as good as not giving us free will to begin with. God wants to create something good, and that requires us to actively choose what is good, choose to be with God.
For this we are put in this world to be given a chance to learn of good and evil, realize that Gods law is good and just, admit our errors and actively choose goodness over evil and God over ourselves. We can do this through 3 ways:
-Having faith: Just trust God to tell you the right thing
-Burn yourself on the fire: Touch the fire and learn that its hot, endulge yourself in sin and realize the ruin and misery it brings
-Learn from others: See others burning themselves, ruining their lives in sin and choose to not commit the same errors.
We doubted, we ate the fruit, and now have to learn of good and evil, and as evil cant exist in heaven we are put into this sandbox world where we can not destroy anything meaningful.
