Judge has discretion, judges REALLY don't like being told how they should do their job and REALLY don't like to be seen to be hiding information from the jury.
Former TMZ "journalist" wants to tell the court who leaked the video to him. TMZ wants to block him from doing so, by citing laws and cases that apply to criminal cases where the witness got forced.
The difference here is that the witness isn't with TMZ, it's not a criminal case and he is doing it 100% voluntarily.
