He was mostly death and so didn't listen to advice, he just did monologues (this seems very similar to books, even more positive ones, on Trump). Guy wasn't always a terrible general and that obsessed with his media image and settling scores (Ridgeway saved Korea and he'd go on to call him the worst general he ever had, but also flew in to every successful offensive to claim he had been involved in planning it, he hadn't been.) MacArthur didn't come up with Island Hopping but he did allow it to get implemented and it was a good idea. Problem was by Korea he was deaf, had Parkinson's, and his mind was slipping. US fucked with his sphere of influence and nicked Ukraine in 2014, that's all there is to it. Ukraine is strategic to Russian security and he's willing to give everything to preserve that, even surrender other countries in Europe to keep Ukraine close. Without it, NATO is just few hundred kilometers away from Russian industrial heartland, and he can't have that.

Infectious diseases have never been seriously considered as weapons because there is essentially no way to control the spread and they are not likely to spread at all delivered by rocket.

As for nukes, the US already has plenty of nukes to hit Russia and has for decades.

That was obvious in the run up to the war when putin stated blathering about how nationalism is fake and how we wuz real ukraine. It was a very bizarre speech and was full of duginist eurasianisim ideas.
