Eh, I'm talking about the Americans calling themselves Irish, who are mostly Scots-Irish. At least in my family tree, they've been here since the 1600s and 1700s, and I sometimes can't even follow them back to Europe after digging 8+ generations back and hitting a records dead end. I've helped out others with their trees too and this isn't uncommon, at least around the Midwest/Appalachia border region (IN/OH/KY).
We're often so far removed generationally from our Euro/UK roots that the Prot/Catholic wars, the Ulster plantation, the distinctions between Northern Ireland and the rest of Ireland, all that shit no longer remains, even as a distant memory. We're just dumb Americans who see "Ireland" and go "lmao, Irish, gingers who drink heavily". That's the real success of the American melting pot, all of the old-world shit melted away and we no longer give any fucks. Except for groups such as recent Irish Catholic immigrants in the Northeast who kept their insular identities/communities and did shit like send money to the IRA in the 80s.

Those aren’t Irish they’re Lowlanders who are genetically Anglo Scots or Anglo Irish Calvinists. They’re more Germanic than England and the quintessential old stock Native American. Every migrant after 1776 is just an immigrant visiting the country.

One of the things I learned while doing family tree research was the history of French-Americans. There actually aren't many, compared to other ethnicities, because France was generally doing okay, there were other options (such as Quebec), and there was a general understanding that once you immigrated to America, odds were high that your kids would end up Protestant and English-speaking. I have some French-Americans and Walloon-Americans in my family who came over in the 1800s. They lived in insular French-speaking communities and were buried in Catholic cemeteries.
You'll never guess what language their great-grandchildren spoke, and where they are buried.
They went from Pierre to Peter and from the Catholic Church to the Church of Christ in less than two generations.

Anglicizing is healthier. The weird obsession of standing out doesn’t work and the Japanese know this. They hate anyone who doesn’t have black hair for example. Assimilation for whites is easy. Be Protestant and change your surname. Steve Carell is of Italian descent. But since he’s mixed with other European ancestries and has an Anglic surname you would never be able to tell. The modern day parades and support of hyphen Americans is everywhere from ancestral orders, societies, clubs, fraternities and New York Parades. America doesn’t assimilate whites anymore.

Forgot pick but he said he’s Italian German Polish. Most Northeasterners are a mix of Italian Irish German English or French so mostly Northwestern European especially when mixed. Surnames make you connected to Europe and not Anglo-America which fucks with you mentally. I’m tired of seeing the next stupid day pared for European ethnicities. Many Americans have German ancestry because a lot of Germans did come here.
I'm just British Isles old stock and have known it since I was a boy, but I've met many otherwise anglicized people walking around with German names my whole life where I live. The next town over is even named after a German farmer family.
