i've been looking for an mma discipline to train. Jiu jitsu seems like such a larp. I hate having to pretend to do the whole asian honor thing. I just want to learn how to find people and get in shape. Is wrestling better?

Jiu is great, but for street fights either kickboxing or muay thai practicers are superior. But definetely lots of camaraderie in jiu jitsu, especially if you like groping men

i would have reccomended judo but as an american that's probably exactly what you would get. in japan it's just a sport and the bowing stuff is just what japs do when they great each other semi-formally. it's not really ninja spirit ki shit like westerners seem to think. the university guys over there are literally just a japanese flavor of sports jock.
japanese karate seems to be a lot like that but that was essentially born out of the militarized school system pre-ww2 so that's a bit fucking special. maybe just take up western wrestling and boxing.
