By addressing the root cause, the Mother has deliberately encouraged the dependency of the Son. Like the film 'misery', the Son is spiritually hobbled. And if he tries to leave she will thwart that.
The answer is for the Son to forgive, have peace and build self dependence. Then he can leave and not be discouraged from the path by his controlling mothers manipulations.
