You have to remember that the Ukranian armed forces at this point resemble a 20th century era mobilized army, cross-section of males from across most class and ethnic backgrounds. Russia in contrast is this weird empire mis-mash of poor ethnic minorities, privileged warrior groups (It still cracks me up that the Russians fear of Chechnyas lead them to give them this weird princely state thing but in battle all they can do is brutalize civilians and fight over loot) and conscripted suckers who signed the contract. You have one or two actually professional formations in there as well but alot of those bit the dust in the first weeks of the invasion. Difference between the Ukranians being a European nation state and Russia being an Empire importing poor central Asians to fight into Europe.
