First, these are people who never actually commanded troops in a real conflict, like Ukrainians did.
Second, judging from the shit their mouthpieces like ISW are pushing, they're completely deluded about the situation on the ground. They see things they wanna see. They delude themselves. Snake Island disaster and pointless Kharkov offensive is their brainchild. They are eager to do risky shit like that, because they aren't Ukrainians. Dead Ukrainians mean nothing to them.
Given how dependent Ukraine is on their support, I suspect they'll get their way. And then they're gonna do some stupid thing like this ''wide'' counter-offensive, that is going to absolutely cripple Ukrainian Army.

If they achieve their current goal, it's gonna be a disaster.
Even worse, they'll probably achieve some marginal success initially which will delude them further and lead to a bigger commitment. Read my post, I'm not arguing that. You can't just ''send more artillery''. For start, Western material reserves are low. And even if you start cannibalizing combat units, you still need to ship that artillery, you need to ship shitload of ammo, you need an entire logistical system in place to accommodate it.
This isn't about ''escalating'' or shit. This is all Western countries can send right now. That's the reality of the situation. He fought separatists for years, he's an experienced commander.
Ukrainian General Staff is also opposing this shit in Donbas right now, it's a futile endeavor.
