Lyme disease isn't a real threat outside of the heavily suburban northeastern US.
When you live in an area that is truly rural or urban, and it doesn't have fragmented forests that can only house birds or small rodents, your environment will either support no wildlife (urban) or all wildlife (rural) which rests in a dilution effect for ticks to have targets that are not human/deer during their nymphal stage and therefore not spread lyme to a human or deer, which are good reservoir hosts.
If I remember correctly, birds, foxes, raccoons, and especially opposums are bad hosts of lyme and reduce transmission rates to humans if they are in an area.
Nymph ticks are the most dangerous due to their small size and if they remain undetected for 24 hours they can start to transmit lyme disease if they have been infected from feeding on a reservoir host.
Sidenote: lyme will not be transmitted if the tick is removed in under 24 hours of being bit.
Suburbs also have the problem of being edge environments which attract deer, so if you have alot of deer and humans in proximity, with some birds and small rodents, you have breeding grounds for lyme.
Just look at how high population the north east is, and also how much of the areas outside of the cities are suburban in nature, and you have the answer.
Suburban environments are the worst of urban and rural, choose one or the other.
