do you wish australian homes had basements like american homes do?
it would mean needing to dig into the ground before you can start building the rest of the house

Aus houses don't have foundations?
Most of it is shitty basic bitch slab or post and pier
are your houses brick or stick?
Mainly timber frame and brisk veneer if you’re lucky. Double brick would be tondear iirc
Do Aussies really not have basements? Where do they set up their man caves?
The shed or ‘garage’
kill yourself mutt

yes but most of sydney is on sandstone so you will need some serious rock breaking excavation just to add a a few rooms of space at considerable cost per sqm.
australia != sydney
just build the basement above ground then m8
There's only a tiny section in the south east mountains that ever drops below freezing. Without a frost line there's no reason to have basements. You won't find many in Florida either.
We don't have basements and almost nobody has an attic. We are mostly single level boring house people.
HOWEVER, in the northern regions where cyclones are a threat we build are houses out of fat besser block bricks so they can't be blown down. They can look a bit like bunkers.
Here you can get a comfy bomb shelter installed for like $6,000. Nicer/bigger ones are more expensive but I always thought about getting one just to have a cool place to chill that also serves a secondary purpose.
Also known as a shed which almost every suburban house has
>He's never heard of Coober peedy....
The cave roof covers you in dust if you accidentally bump the walls when you try to turn over in bed.
Only a fag doesn't sleep perfectly still with arms behind head for exactly 7.5 hours.
I've never met anyone who lived in a house with a basement.
It seems like an easy way to get an extra floor, without having to make the house too tall.basements provide good storage, and good insulation, they also help keep a house cooler in hot weather. they seem very pratical to me.
7.5 hours? You must he a Virgin! I get exactly 8.0 hours sweaty.
Damn. Wish I was on the dole also and had all that free time.
Yea, i was considering putting one in, but the additional cost didn't seem worth it at the time. Plus there's issues with ground water around here, but maybe in the future there'll be time for a wine cellar.
if you know how to use a shovel, carry rocks, and mix mortar, you can build one for 500$. and inb4 "oh its too much work ... when i was a boy, in the eighties, i helped my dad dig and build our basement, with a pick and shovel. not only did the old man dig out his own basement, he then jacked up our house and moved it onto the new basement! he did it all with a john deere tractor, two feet, a heartbeat, some logs and his incessant whislting (a habit he picked up in the navy). Im constantly amazed at how weak and effeminate men of today are. you wouldnt believe what your body can do, if your spirit is willing.
That's the whole house.
Utterly mental that all of Australia wasn't built like that. An actual way to deal with the heat.
