I had a botched surgery on my shoulder while active duty and now I have nerve damage in my neck that can prevent me from turning my head for days or weeks at a time. It doesn't happen ALL the time but something as simple as sleeping the wrong way can cause it the nerves to flare up. I basically cannot drive when this happens sometimes even walking shoots pain through my neck. You could see me lifting weights for weeks and BAM bed ridden but how can you have a job were you could potentially need to call of for weeks at a time every so often? Fuck the military, I'm sure it's so important to worry about workers comp for people in the military when we just sent 40 billion to Ukraine.

If you are granted Individual Unemployability, you should not work under any circumstance. Outside of that, you can make up to the defined Substantially Gainful Employment rate and not get into trouble. However, if you have a physical disability (loss of limb, etc) you may be able to work and not be subject to review. There are three general time-based protections as well. One, the 5 year rule, which means your disability has stayed steady for 5 years, and may be considered static. Then there is the 10 year rule, which means the VA can not REMOVE your disability that has been in effect for 10 years, but the VA can REDUCE said disability. Finally is the 20 year rule which states the VA can neither remove or reduce a disability that has maintained for 20 years.
tl;dr make less than the substantially gainful employment, if not, you can work as much as you want for ONE YEAR before the VA can pull you in for review

You can only be treated at the VA facility for conditions that you are receiving compensation for unless you have over 60% VA disability then you can be seen for anything but that doesn't include any dental or vision coverage. Additionally because the VA is so poorly fucking managed they WILL drop the ball if you have an emergency room visit that is not a VA facility, they WILL not respond to bills in time, you WILL receive a fucking bill for medical care that is supposed to be covered, and you WILL fucking have to pay it or have it go to collections and fuck your credit score, and then after the fact try to get compensated from the VA.

You need to have some type of mental illness diagnosis. PTSD, Schizoaffective, Anxiety Disorder. Play up your symptoms and that should bump you up to 100 percent VA disability.
