Well, thank you for a lesson. I've read that attacker needs to have 3 to 1 advantage to assure the victory. I understand that it doesn't apply to a situation when the attacker is way more superior, like english soldiers vs zulu niggers, but I thought ukrainian army was more on par with russian. Plus ukrainian propaganda in Poland 24/7, i admit I partially fell for it.

They should just make love with each other and leave the war to uZ

Not just that, but Afaik, Russia is depending on local numerical superiority if I'm not mistaken (excuse me if I am), where they tend to concentrate their numbers in certain areas; thus outnumbering the UA in said areas( I believe it's the same tactic that's been used by the Wehrmacht (schwerpunkt).
Zelensky said that the war would cost Ukraine tens of thousands of lives, forgetting to clarify that it had already cost tens of thousands of dead, who are being hidden by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, passing off as missing and dead from covid. The real prospect is that by the end of the year, Ukraine's losses, given current trends, will exceed not tens of thousands, but hundreds of thousands or more.
>I've read that attacker needs to have 3 to 1 advantage to assure the victory. That's a general guideline, a VERY general guideline, not a rule.
You have shitload of cases where equal or smaller armies achieved major success. >but I thought ukrainian army was more on par with russian
Some formations are better than average Russian unit, they have years of battle experience.
But they're used badly, especially now.
Despite memes and fantasies, initial Russian rush, while also costing Russians a lot, inflicted major losses on Ukrainians. They didn't give up almost 30% of their territory in order to ''lure Russians in'', they did it because Russians outmaneuvered them.
Of course, once they stood and fought, it was apparent that Russians can't sustain a drive on several axis, for various reasons.
Russians realized their failures, and adapted accordingly, more or less successful. Ukrainians failed to adapt.
It seems they smoked their own propaganda and underestimated Russians and badly predicted their future strategy.
Instead of concentrated rush on their Donbas positions, Russians decided to use reconnaissance-in-force by small units and their overwhelming artillery and air superiority.
It's a slow process, but it negated Ukrainian advantage.

is proko still inside azovstal or was he "evacuated" with the rest?
Some female medic from the steel plan that got evacuated smuggle a SD card in a tampon with the video of her trying to revive two dying kids. That card was given to the members of the red cross by her and then the red cross gave it to the AP. Media is saying that the people who surrendered are not terrorist and wore just people helping each other survive
Caleb Carter
you need to understand his great grandfather Emilio worked very hard to build them. They are a source of pride and joy for him.
And I'm guessing hard now, but Russians aren't idiot, and neither is Dvornikov. His troops did well in the initial phase, and now he's in charge of the overall effort. He commanded Russian effort in Syria. At the very least, he seems to be a competent officer.
There are reports that badly performing commanders were v&.
It seems they understood that once again, defense is superior to offense due to shifting paradigm, so now they're doing what British and French (and Russians too) were doing in the latter phase of WW1 - limited attacks, methodical advance, letting the artillery do the job.
Of course, once they estimate that Ukrainian resistance is weak enough, we can expect them to attempt a larger breakthrough.
Jason Smith
Surely Ukraine pulls out troops from Eastern Donbass this week. It literally looks like an encirclement could happen to Severodonetsk

The losses of Russia are known by name - just over 2300 people. Losses of the DPR - 1900, the last time I saw. Maybe now more. LNR losses - more than 1000 for sure.
Losses of Ukrov - Damn, guess for yourself. It is precisely known about 70 died pilots.
The captivity in Russia and the republics is already about 10 thousand ukies, including Azov.
The prisoners of Russians - there were 340 in total (they exchanged so). 27 people could not even find for the last exchange. But, they definitely have about a few dozen mobilized from the republics, after the Kharkov retreat. They also have 3 our pilots and several officers. In total, it is unlikely that there will be even 100 people.
Jeremiah Anderson
They can't. If they pull them out now things will collapse faster since Russia have the lanes of retreat under fire control. They should have pulled back weeks ago.
Xavier Parker
After Azov surrender? Hell no They will make a last stand there
Jordan King
They are gonna explode themselves

They are, but no one told them reinforced soviet industrial complexes don't drop from the sky.
There have been sources claiming Zaluzhny (ukrainian chief of general staff) asked Zelensky permission to withdraw from Severodonetsk for a month now, but got refused every time.
Avdiivka now encircled by DPR after initial reports from the late evening of the 16th.
Lyman encircled with almost 4000 Ukrainian troops inside.
The Kharkov forces that rushed too far ahead crossed the donets, fell into a trap and are now stuck and surrounded in Russian territory and the two towns they "retook" are now Russian again after they returned and came from behind the Ukie force. The bridge was detonated behind the Ukies to prevent the Russians crossing over but now surrender or death is their only choice now.
Severodonetsk facing a multi front attack as outlying defensive areas are falling each day.
Popasna breakthrough in every direction.
Zakitne and Platonivka captured
Shchedryshcheve(just north of Severodonetsk, the last outlying area) is under attack again tonight. Likely to take it in the coming hours.
Holubviske pocket is closing with multiple Ukrainian fortified strongholds inside and starved of supplies
Novozvanivka-Troitske fortified pocket to the east of the villages is almost closed with several Ukrainian fortified positions inside and two southern most forts were fully destroyed and captured earlier today by DPR infantry
Severodonetsk airport a likely target in the coming days.
Ustynivka under attack tonight after a earlier probing attack today.
They can't. It's make or break time. Zelensky will not give surrender allowances. They military in the East will have to choose to fight and die or give up. If they give up, this war could effectively be over
Isaiah Butler
Can they even pull out? They would have a narrow corridor to flee into which would be carpet bombed when they attempt it. Most soldiers historically have died in routes with this same principal in mind. It's downright safer to hold out and surrender later than to flee even organized in that situation.
user, the M777 is built to be light, and compromised reliability for that. It can operate on average for four days till it needs to be repaired. If it tops over, it is over. You can not operate it anymore, unless you want the operators to die by it backfiring.
Joseph Jackson
He's talking about the special operation by the remaining grunts to kill him and the other Azov commanders.
I don't believe any numbers, the most accurate numbers will probably be revealed sometime after the war. For now posting numbers for me is propaganda from both sides (although Ukraine is exaggerating beyond fairy tale levels
Just copy and pasting. Lots of moving parts tonight
John King
>this war could effectively be over Not necessarily, it's not like their whole army is in Donbas. However, it would be a major blow and if things collapse quickly enough, you can expect Russian drive on Odessa.
Letting Russians cross Dnepr and establish a firm bridgehead, which happened in the first days of the conflict, could turn out to be the thing that lost them this war.
Indeed. You can tell by actions, not press releases. You don't need 4+ mobilizations and constant injections of foreign weapons and money if you aren't suffering heavy losses
>ukrainian army was more on par with russian Well yes, but actually no. On paper the two armies are comparable, especially in the scope of the ongoing conflict(if Russia went full hog on Ukraine, Kiev in 3 days meme wouldn't have been a meme). In practise though, things aren't looking good for the ukrainian army. They lack firepower, air power, vehicles, and supplies, especially in the donbass area. For instance, Russia spends about 5k artillery shells per day, ukraine, probably half that, if not less. The lack of manpower is also present, ukrainian high command has resorted to sending TDU(volksturm) to the front lines, so that they can at least somewhat hold the front. And btw, they arent being sent there to rotate the troops, they are being sent there to hold the line, the ukies admitted to that. The quality of TDU is, as you may guess, poor. So in the end AFU+TDU are being turned into mist by Russian arty day and night and after the barrage stops Russian troops walk in to mop up.
They just waiting the order Order which Jewlenski refuses to give because he fears Zrada campaign from such action And it’s kinda late to do a retreat Russia has escape route in artillery range already
Sebastian Davis
It is reported from the ground that the village of Troitskoye, south of Popasnaya, has been taken.
Hunter Jenkins
They'll likely spare the volkssturm if they lay down their arms, but Zelensky shipped a lot of commissars from western Ukraine to prevent surrenders. They're all fucked.
>my face swells up for the first time in my life >hear that swelled lymph nodes are a symtpom of monkeflu
Guys?
Ryder Baker
Well, I said *could*. If they collapse and give up, it's unlikely the Northern front will continue.
If that happens, Russia can focus force on a push across the coast in the South. But that will just be essentially a mop-up operation, a la, Maruipol for the past few weeks.
The fact they rushed those Polish tanks near Zaporozhye few days ago is telling enough. Also, some stuff flies under the radar here, but biggest warning sign was their total inability to push Russians back anywhere in Donbas, and they did stage several counter-attacks, and some of them ended disastrously.
Ethan Evans
Dmitry Medvedev named the main reason why millions of people in the world cannot live normally and receive food. He added that Russia will not supply products to its own detriment, and without it it will be difficult for importing countries:
“Our country is ready to fulfill its obligations in full. But it also expects assistance from trading partners, including on international platforms. Otherwise, it turns out to be illogical: on the one hand, insane sanctions are being imposed against us, on the other hand, they are demanding food supplies. It doesn't happen, we're not idiots."
