first, the 1 in 10 death rate: This is because monkeypox is hardly ever screened or confirmed in lab tests. The disease has been rampant in the congo and central/west africa for years, and most deaths relating to it happen in children. It predominantly affects people living in basic poverty who don't even have access to water. A wide-spread monkeypox pandemic is unlikely to kill or seriously injure more people than chickenpox
Second, no, the pox virus is not proven to be airborne. Pox virus infections aren't like COVID or the FLU - they don't spread through coughing and respiratory infection. Monkeypox, chickenpox, and smallpox all spread through large rash lesions that form on the skin. In order to become infected, you need to come into bodily contact with the pus from said lesions. Activities like wearing gloves in public or washing your hands will basically ensure you never get infected. Remember, small pox outbreaks happened in an era before soap was a household item.
Third, assuming you do come into contact, your risk of having an actual infection is VERY high, which actually hurts monkeypox's ability to spread. Monkeypox doesn't have a coof, it starts as a fever and turns into an infectious rash after a few days. It's a virus that's relatively easy to contain, and outbreaks will generally be contained since signs and symptoms are easy to identify, compare to the FLU where initial transmission point is impossible to pinpoint
