...what was the Internet like 15-20 years ago? Was it really a "Wild West" as most people seem to describe it like?

No niggers or normies it was heaven

Yes. I used to play runescape like that

I had a fast ADSL line by 2000. I remember listening to cop radio during the 2001 attacks. Your video is my experience of 1995 when I still used 52.000 baud dial up.

People called me nigger a lot because I had a really insanely deep voice when I hit puberty

Everyone on it was from the US so you weren't interacting with third worlders and euro trash. There were no phone posters and computers in general were less user friendly which meant most of the people on it were at least a bit technically savvy. Forums were much more polite and constructive, people had their personal lives, and then their online lives when they got done with supper where as now its all the same. Idk about "wild west", I saw less about niggers and jews, a lot more pornography even in ads, everyone still knew the government was snooping, or at least suspected it. Back then when you asked someone their location you expected the answer to be a State.

>No niggers or normies it was heaven
I remember figuring out a hack to get prodigy and compuserve for free in the early 90's when I was 11 and then everyone was doing the free trial hit endlessly when AOL came out. Then netzero came out and the ads weren't too bad and still free.
The biggest thing is bbs'/forums had zero normies and women

Back when load times were this bad, I didn't even mind because everything was just much more interesting online. Also because I wasn't online 24/7 so it was more of a novelty. weird to think a period like that will never happen again. once in a lifetime thing. now we're never going to know a world without internet again unless we nuke everything

It was pretty slow but Netscape was a good search engine. I remember visiting Hezbollah’s website when I was a student and trying to download some music: my housemate was an Arab, but it was blocked by the university.

It was kino. A LOT of weird shit started appearing on like in 1999. Prior to that is was pretty clean and focused on learning, news, information, and finding cool things in real life but in the internet. I miss that clunky and chunky UI so fucking bad you have no idea.

God damn fucking mutts spread the stereotype of niggers being hypermasculine with big dicks.
America has truly been a nigger worshipping nation since it's inception

*appearing online

>bad load times
But it was sure worth the wait

No
Maybe 25 years ago

Yes, mostly, but there was less content.

Better. Everyone was more interesting, all the vapid people were filtered out by how difficult it was to get on the internet back then. It's gotten steadily worse since the iphone came out.

Wild west in terms of piracy, that was cool. I used to spend hours on DC++ at a time downloading movies, albums, and games. Sometimes people would accidently share their entire drive and you could snoop their Windows profile. Now I download one movie and I immediately get a copyright notification from my ISP.

>"Wild West"
A complete over-exaggeration. It was slow and there were limited sites. Popup ads soon took over and from there it wasn't really downhill, but more of a lateral slide through shit.
t. got my first computer in 1994

more so novel and untapped, but most people you meet online in those days were rather quite competent it seems compared to now that i think about it.
makes sense as the internet age hit subhumans largely after america. would be unthinkable to run into an actual shill (like a forced labor chinese prisoner) or glowie algorithms picking up on keywords.

I have fond fun memories of the Wild West Internet. IRC (Internet Relay Chat) and Usenet ... the original shitposting board. (now groups.google.com) Here's a sample.

Fpbp. It used to be uncool to use the internet and it was amazing. Then faggots, normies, women, and npcs showed up once smart phones were invented and now it sucks.

>It's gotten steadily worse since the iphone came out
That was the beginning of the downfall, Facebook was the start imo

"Wild West" is actually a pretty accurate analogy IMO. There were certain pockets where interactions occurred but order and politeness were required (mostly corporate spaces), and you would be removed if you didn't comply. Those were like the towns of the old west, they were limited but they existed and were significant gathering places. Much more common though was the open unregulated plains. Those were pretty much self-regulated small communities run by obese computer geeks, schizos, and other weirdos.

This is called looking at the past with rose tinted glasses anons

You don't really miss the earlier internet, you miss the experiences you had in your youth, and the wonderment of interacting with a brand new thing

The old internet offers nothing the new one doesn't, unless you are a pedo of course

yeah it was fucking great. you could spend untold hours visiting sites on fucking anything. geocities used to have the most wild shit moderation was none existent so you could find the most crazy out there shit with ease. the only shitty part was having to get offline so people could use the phone but eventually two phone lines became common and solved that shit

I watched Retarded Animal Babies on newgrounds a few times back then.

Blaming the iPhone is normie brain zombie talk

There were these things called websites, that was fucking crazy.

I remember playing Americas Army on government servers in 2003 and calling every person I killed a faggot nigger and never once was banned. Life was simple. Decentralized websites with no ads or pop ups were a thing of beauty. Legends grew in far corners of the internet. You wanted to explore it. Then one day it all changed. Slowly but surely the internet became a tool for the government instead of a weapon for the people. I have high hopes for elons explanation of web3

20 years ago i was in iraq killing sand niggers who were trying to kill me.

i didn't know the jq at the time. not sure i would have joined the military or went to the desert if i wasn't brainwashed at the time.

the wild west era was more in the 1990's

>reddit spacing
Go back

I've been online since 1997. The trend started a little before as more and more people had laptops for college, but 2007 was the death knell of the internet as it was. Now most people think the internet encompasses just a handful of website for their daily dose of attention seeking and mindless video watching. It was more of a tool before, now it's an interactive extension of TV.

Back in the day every schizo here would have been an admin or sysop. They traded their independence just to be closer to more people to infect with their language viruses

25 years ago it was (try emailing mrhands.mpg nowadays to an unsuspecting person as a joke and see what happens), but not so much 20 years ago anymore.

this. no women either

absolutely

The internet has been feminized. That is the main difference. Not just that there are much more women online than there used to be but now it has to conform to their standards of civility so the push for censorship and anti-anonymity.

It had soul
I won that free vacation I got 90 popups explains as such

I think people are far more racist now than they were back in the day. It turns out censoring people for racism makes them more racist. But not as much as the crime rate going down, and people moving back into the city.
