With the dedication he put into training for that assault, he could've put that energy into something productive like starting a family, volunteering somewhere, joining law enforcement and then shooting criminals who actually deserve to die, but he decided to take the path of less resistance instead, and shoot unarmed civies, so compared to what he could've done, like give a speech to a crowd of people about something educational, or partake in his future wife's family dinner, yeah, I'd say this was much more cowardly, what he did instead.
