Paganism is actually creeping back into the spotlight. The type of book and authority bound monotheism that is Christianity has become terminal in a world dominated by reason and natural sciences.
Christianity claims that the bible gives it divine authority. That was great in less certain times as it gave the religion a lot of stability. The monotheism also coupled nicely with the eagerness to proselytize. In modern times however we have access to so much knowledge that a book written in the Roman period must look outdated and ridiculous. Jesus or Odin, what's the difference?
Well, the answer is that humans have a genetic predisposition to spirituality. While Jesus claims to be the only guy in charge, Odin is just one. There is no central code as strict as the bible for paganism. As such it can more easily tolerate other faiths, other gods and other concepts of religiosity in its vicinity.
tl;dr:
The more we learn the more bullshit we identify in holy scripture. There is a baseline of spirituality that people need met. Christianity is in trouble because it made too many concrete claims about the world.

This. It's like Varg said, you have to look at paganism without the christian glasses. So much has been (intentionally?) distorted by christians. Take for example reincarnation vs eternal feast in Valhalla (which clearly is the pagan equivalent to heaven). There was a push back in the day to make pagan religions appear more similar to christianity, as christianity was seen as the highest form of spirituality. So take all "written sources" of paganism with a pinch of salt.
