He had cancer not AIDS. Also, he’s been largely forgotten. In early 00s when I was still in school we did the Terry Fox run. But already around like 2006-2008 when I was in high school, he wasn’t really mentioned anymore. I am surprised that someone even remembered him for the purpose of making a troll thread because I think zoomers don’t know who that even is anymore.

And honestly, looking back on the whole thing, what he did was pretty admirable. Not from a virtue point of view, but the fact that he was an athlete and running was what he liked to do, and despite being crippled by his cancer he pressed on and kept doing what he loved. He set an ambitious goal that he wasn’t even able to meet, yet he worked hard at it and really believed he could do it. He died doing what he loved to do. Again, it’s not really about cancer for me, or about raising money. I don’t even care about him. But you have to give him credit for not letting anything stop him from living his life and setting ambitious goals for himself in spite of his circumstances. I think being idolized as a hero for cancer patients kind of detracts from that aspect of it.
