Reservoirs Keep Losing Ground

Inactive Pool is the minimum elevation to generate power.
Dead Pool is the minimum elevation for water outlet at the dam. After this point, no water can make it downstream to the river bed below.

Sometimes the media thinks the Dead Pool measure is the point of no electricity and misreport it. Use caution when reading articles.

LAKE MEAD
1051 ft - current level
950 ft - inactive pool for Hoover Dam.

The current level of Lake Mead used to be the Inactive Pool level (1049 ft), but five of the turbines have been recently replaced with low-flow models. This allows hydroelectric generation with only 950 ft. I sure hope no one lied about the numbers just to ease along the approval of the project.

• JUST BUILD MOAR NUCULAR POWER LOL
The Palo Verde Generating station (west of Phoenix AZ) is the largest nuclear power plant in the U.S., and the only plant that doesn't sit on a large body of water with which to cool it. Nuclear plants need cooling water, and Palo Verde is having trouble finding an economic source of supply. They use 65 million gallons of treated wastewater -- every DAY. As water becomes more scarce, treated wastewater becomes more expensive. There isn't room for another nuclear power plant.

Ah well, Lake Mead will have to do for now. They can always drawdown from their upstream reservoir, Lake Powell, amirite?

LAKE POWELL
3524 ft - current level
3490 ft - inactive pool for Glen Canyon Dam.

Lake Powell is in bad shape, too. Lake Powell is now restricting how much water they send downstream ("Suck it, Mead!") and they've had to take emergency measures. The decline at Powell may look on a graph to be experiencing a less severe gradient, but that's only because they're drawing down water from their upstream reservoirs: Flaming Gorge, Blue Mesa, and Navajo. Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Wyoming is currently in no danger, but they've been tapped to send 10 feet of their water to Powell, and that may increase to 15 feet by the end of the year 2022. Flaming Gorge can do this for 3 years or so.

Again, this is not a solution; only a delay. As the population increases, so does the need for electricity, water for human consumption, and water for agricultural irrigation.

CALIFORNIA
Some of the Lake Mead/Hoover Dam hydrolectric power is doled out to California and Los Angeles et.al. Why doesn't CA just build desalination plants in the ocean?
• CA PANEL REJECTS DESALINATION PLANT PROPOSAL LOL
There was a proposal to build a $1.4 billion plant that would draw on ocean water, but it was unanimously rejected on May 12, 2022.
>muh marine animals sucked into intake pumps
>muh rising sea-level and tsunamis! will destroy plant
>muh water will be too expensive!
"We have lots of energy and water here."
>they said as they sucked on bottled water from the Great Lakes.

Not my problem

Water is wasted on feeding cows.
Water is wasted on growing almonds
Water is wasted by farmers because the laws require them to waste water, so they don't lose it.

Eh, it doesn't matter if shit goes really bad, Los Angeles will just murder all the people leaving "near by" for water.

*Near by means everything between LA and Texas, and LA and Canada.

Nobody cares about people living in wyoming, the dakotas, or the montana

>inb4 water wars

They have an ocean right next to them

time has come to form a human chain of unemployed people with buckets and dump in water from the ocean. better to have electricity than fresh water

Bump. Finally a quality thread.

Jesus fucking. Everybody thinks Americans are stupid, but do you British fucks really think that people can drink salt water from the Pacific ocean?

Why are you drinking nuclear waste water?

Have you not heard of desalination?

880 people could refill 25 million gallons in a 8 hour shift

>Los Angeles will just murder all the people leaving "near by" for water.
Los Angeles will be a gridlocked nigger filled death trap dumb faggot.

Electric cars I wonder eat how much of this energy. There is absolutely no shortage compared to the water we have. Plus draining entire lakes so you can drive a meme car.

.... Yeah sure what ever. California Nuked these places Los Angeles gets their water from:

District No. 21 – Kagel Canyon
District No. 40 – Antelope Valley
District No. 36 – Val Verde
District No. 37 – Acton
District No. 29 – Malibu (Including Marina del Rey Water System)

Do you understand how energy intensive desalination is?

cloud seeding

bruh I made a solar still in science class. as long as its sunny out you get free fresh water

CALIFORNIA WEEBIN

ON SUCH A WINTER'S DAY

HAHAHAHA I pissed off some loser from Wyoming.

Seriously you worthless leech. GO suck off your senator's dick as thanks for all the government welfare you keep getting that keeps your money-hole states livable.

Attached: topgraphy.jpg (1199x793, 158.13K)

daddy musk gonna save the day and drill a hole directly from the great lakes

How long would it have taken for your still to make enough to flush your toilet?

Why cant Californians learn how to evaporation

They even get free salt at the end of it

coastline and import profits belong to the people who support them.
you are a monopoly allowed to exist.

>inb4 water wars
You ain't kidding!

There's a river in Colorado called the South Platte River, and CO expects the population along it to increase another 40-70 thousand people. Nebraska has water rights to the South Platte, and they are planning to invoke an old compact from 1922(?) that allows them to buy Colorado land ... or simply seize it via eminient domain!! ... in order to build canals to take water from the river and send it elsewhere in Nebraska. The idea is that Nebraska needs to get a hold of this water first before increasing Colorado population can get dibs on the water in the future. As you can imagine, this is making Colorado angry.

Meanwhile, Kansas has won a Supreme Court against Nebraska, claiming that Nebraska is using so much water from the Ogallala Aquifer, that its drawing too much water away from the Republican River which Kansas has water rights to. So Nebraska has ended some agriculture in a particular region, simply so they can pump the water out the aquifer and into the Republican River so Kansas will shut up and go away.

Is it any surprise that Bill Gates has bought so much farmland ... for the associated water rights?

Californians should be made to drink salt water and eat bullets, fag.

maybe if they stopped letting nestle pump the aquifers dry for pennies they'd still have the water they needed. Fuck california.

Bumparino

This shit happens nearly every 4-8 years.
Caring now is retarded.
web.archive.org/web/20130401082939/https://www.nytimes.com/2010/0
It was also retarded to think than Lake Powell and Lake Mead could be filled from the same source. It took Powell 14 years to fill up.
So, there's water shortages...really? Who'd have thunk it.

You're right!

Who do you think is allowing los angeles to exist?

Oh yeah I'm so angry I'm shidding and farding. Face it faggot if SHTF You would be nigger food. You probably don't have 3 days of food or more than a half tank of gas.

even putting a kiddie pool on every flat roof of beach water in las angeles would help
