Yes and no. Spirits are real and you have one inside you too, it's your consciousness. Some spirits are not human though and never were. Christianity calls them Demons, but it's misleading as they're more like powerful spirits operating on non-human morality we can't understand than evil. Doesn't mean you should mess with these entities. Stay away from spirits who aren't friendly to you and even be vary of friendly ones.
Spirits can't do much things in physical world though, so no need to fear them unless you allow them inside your head which may lead to possession.
