That's correct. It's light ragging on Judaism like every movie. Mel Brooks "makes fun" of Judaism all the time. The point is to let them know: this is a Jewish movie. Almost every movie in every genre has Jewish jokes, usually near the beginning. This movies then subverts christianity by associating it as Jewish and then lambasts it.
