i am ex submariner vlad - the sub was rather shallow by modern standards - 300-400 ft deep i think, which is even survivable (for some) with manual escape with air device (have to be accelerated to top, can't swim from that depth, hopeless), and then probably need hyperbolic chamber on surface. Escape from a sub that deep is very easy with nato escape vessels, just your russian ones sucked ass.
