If you have diabetes its because your body does not produce adequate insulin and/or the cells in your body have difficulty absorbing the insulin your body produces. This can be fixed either by injecting exogenous insulin or taking medication that allows your body to better absorb the insulin you already produce. The oldest way to treat diabetes is by injecting exogenous insulin, which comes in a vial that you draw up and shoot into a fatty part of your body, usually on your abdomen. This is usually done 3 times a day before mealtimes. A vial of this insulin (called regular insulin) can be purchased at a pharmacy WITHOUT a prescription for about $25. This vial should last you at least a month.

There are new types of insulins and administration devices on the market such as long acting insulin, a metered dose pen, shit like that. Doctors like to prescribe these because they're harder for the patient to fuck up. These devices and new insulins are expensive but they are NOT required to treat insulin, they are simply conveniences. This goes for medications that help your body absorb insulin, they are relatively new and are not cheap, but they are not required to treat diabetes. If you cannot afford these just ask your doctor to prescribe regular insulin and ask for them to make you a "sliding scale" which is an individualized guide for how much insulin you should be taking depending on what your blood sugar is.

Also type 2 diabetes, which accounts for 95% of all diabetes, is totally reversible through diet and exercise. If you do have type 2 diabetes you have the responsibility to lose weight as to not burden the healthcare system. This is morally no different than being pressured to quit smoking. Your health is your responsibility, you cannot force others to pay for your overindulgence. If you have type 1 diabetes that fucking sucks and I'm sorry, but that is pretty rare compared to type 2.

This is really doubtful. Given the nature of Dems though, they’ll probably react by requiring companies to be in the insulin business in order to be in other drug businesses. This would create another barrier to entry into the drug business, stifling the creation of drug ventures stemming from innovation.

The end-user insured price is fixed to $35. You're still paying for it in your premiums but now it's hidden and can go as high as the drug manufacturers feel like with government support.
