This is not even mentioning shit like we run major roads directly downtown, that bikes in the US are "sport bikes" and aren't comfortable to ride, that biking in winter or 90+ degree weather is culturally not accepted.

And this is just cities, like suburbs are fucking lucky if the route between a store and a home has a sidewalk.

good point, I don't think bikes are a sensible replacement especially for the northern states and canada during winter. but, especially with a rear carriage or a basket it makes sense for milk runs and day trips, a bag of groceries etc. which ngl in Canada is doable, there's a high chance that you can park your bike anywhere with gear attached and it will be fine for over an hour if not indefinitely, so long as you aren't in a skid zone.
that being said, you could make a lot of money with theft-proof bikes, they're just hard to engineer because it makes servicing the thing impractical.

Drivers are assholes, and road riding sucks because of it. I've been passed by vehicles around blind turns and the crests of hills. It's just not worth it.
If there were bike lanes with barriers, I'd exclusively cycle.

USA made many cities and even towns both un-walkable and spread out as fuck. It also often hasn't even *painted* bicycle lanes on the streets, never mind built dedicated space.

Remember the car manufacturers in the USA even actively did (by buying and murdering light rail etc.) and do fight this potential, naming it an issue of "freedom". *Only cars* is more freedom than cars or other vehicles.

I never wear a helmet. I drive my road bike everywhere, surely I do 10,000km a year easy. When you crash you hurt your spine or limbs. Helmets can help you to survive but typicslly you are paralyzed. I rather die.
