He's doing great. Russia has failed "blitzkrieg" and is suffering from overextended lines, hence the regrouping and focusing on local theaters. The longer is goes the weaker Russian position becomes and Ukraine can still turn the tables and get away only with losing LDNR if they drag the war long enough. Russia simply doesn't have numbers to pull this over. They hoped for Crimean scenario and it didn't work out
