>Thoughts on the situation in the Kiev-Chernigov area:
>I would like to point one thing out right away: Unlike the Donbass front, I do NOT have reliable operational information from around Kiev. While I do recieve some info from the "participants on the ground", it is delayed by several days and not always valuable in terms of "painting the big picture".
>At the same time, I do have some thoughts and ideas which I can share with a fair degree of certainty.
>1. As I have already noted more than once - the "rush to Kiev", both on the Right Bank with the Gostomel takeover and striking through the "Chernobyl zone", and on the left bank past Chernigov and Sumy through the countryside, was based on the initial and fundamentally wrong bet on the panic and quick surrender of the Kiev authorities that was to happen from the direct threat to their military and political center, as well as on the belief that the AFU would behave like in 2014.
>Because of this, the troops were instructed to "march forward as quickly as possible, without looking back at the rear". And so the troops marched. In the first few days of the operation it resulted in great and unjustifiable losses both in men and equipment, as the enemy was free to attack unguarded rear troop columns and communication routes.
>Having reached the outskirts of Kiev, the troops got "bogged down" in heavy urban fighting and, as a result, quickly lost both the rapid tempo of the operation and - over time - their ability to advance at all.
>It was not possible to complete the blockade of Kiev - the available forces and means for this task proved to be acutely insufficient. Enemy resistance kept growing, forcing the formation of a more or less continuous front line to cover the rear against enemy raids (while weakening the strike groups). Roughly speaking, the Russian armed forces (both west and east of Kiev) had become like "mushrooms" - with massive caps on thin, fragile stipes.
>At the same time, the Right Bank (western) group has no real logistical connection with the Left Bank due to the lack of bridges across the Dnieper. They have failed to capture any bridges near Kiev, while the ones under Russian control remain deep in the rear in Gomel. In such a situation the maneuvering of forces between the groups is impossible, which both hampers their strike capabilities and creates a threat from the enemy, who is capable of rapid maneuvering through their powerful Kiev transport hub. (The exact same problem was faced by the Wehrmacht near Moscow a long time ago in the winter of 1941).
>Meanwhile, the area of operations of the Right Bank Group itself is located in a wooded marshy region that lacks any substantial roads and other infrastructure, which seriously complicates the task of supplying the Russian troops bogged down in heavy fighting.

>2. Now that their bet on the "Russian Blitzkrieg" has failed, the Russian command faces a logical question: "What to do next, now that we neiher have forces to continue the offensive nor the forces necessary to successfully defend the huge region that has been seized?" The question is all that more pressuring because in just 2-3 weeks (depending on the weather) the entire forested area will turn lush green and the enemy's sabotage and reconnaissance groups will be able to substantially increase their activity.
>There were two possible answers to this question:
>1. "We shall hold on to what we've captured in the hope that the reserves will come soon!"
>2. Since we have failed with the offensive, we shall withdraw the troops from the "sack" they got bogged down in and use them in other - more promising - directions, without waiting until the enemy takes advantage of our mistakes and organizes a counteroffensive.
The political arguments (which hold a lot of weight in civil wars) don't even speak for, but practically "scream" in favour of the first option: the retreat of the Russian Armed Forces from Kiev will inevitably lead to a sharp rise in enemy morale and a creation of appearance that "Russians can be beaten".
>But military experience, on the other hand, speaks in favour of the second option, which itself arises from the dire situation on the fronts. The high command simply does not have any reserves "in the mainland" necessary to turn the tables in our favour and which can be thrown in. Because there are none of them. They also cannot remove troops from other directions (where the "spread-fingers offensive" has been carried out the exact same way). And even if they ordered preparation of new units and formations, it would still take a considerable amount of time: at least two weeks with the most primitive approach possible, as in "you get caught, mobilized, put in a formation and sent right into battle without the slightest combat training").
People need to look at the French elections, they're coming soon and it may nuke the EU by proxy. Macron loosing to anyone equals chaos for EU leadership, more so if Zemmour or Le Pen get in. This has a knock off effect onto the Russia-Ukraine war.
>In the current situation, in my opinion, the command of the Russian Armed Forces has made the only correct decision. If the retreat from the occupied territory is inevitable anyway, it is better to do it without having your troops be defeated by the enemy first.
>And those troops we will need, as the war will be long...
>Still, while this forced withdrawal of troops from the liberated territory, for which we paid an expensive price both in our manpower and equipment, is an unpleasant and bitter fact, it's not something fatal. There are very few wars in Russian history that did not have such "mishaps" because of the outstanding stupidity of our generals. What we should focus on now is making sure that this setback doesn't turn into a whole string of defeats and instead will be replaced with victories again.

My abs have been absolutely BURNING since the tranny-loving Ukie colonel story dropped. God, /ugh/ies have been SEETHING, it's so fucking funny I can barely breathe. I don't even have to go troll their thread since they're all here seething LMAO
No, more like the Ukrainians actually might have fucked up by attacking Russian soil. This might trigger the CSTO's version of article 5 and cause this to escalate for the Ukis. Basically Russia has a proper excuse to just use NATO tactics on the Ukrainians now if you catch my drift.
based and accurate assessments as always. Russian high command really fucked up and refuse to take any remedy's other than the worst ones available. Flattening entire cities with strategic bombers should be happening right now, especially in the west of Ukraine. Limited conscription and mobilization should be taken, at least one million men under arms. Replace the high command as they are incompetent.

Guys I'm pro-Russia but even I have to admit this isn't going well. The Ukrainian posts about casualty numbers are definitely inflated but Russia has taken heavy losses. It's clear the bet on easy capture of cities like Kyiv and Kharkhiv failed. There was some good progress early in the south and east but even that's gotten bogged down and with Ukrainian forces reinforcing the Donbas I'm not even confident Russia's upcoming offensive there will succeed.
I'm thinking this war will just end with an armistice where Russia sits on some lands they took in the south and East. By any objective measure that's a humiliating defeat.
It's late and normally I would be tired by now but I've had no gym this week since I've been working No problem right now, I can do another hour or two even
The thing I find strange is that this is the same group of men who also did Syria. Like Syria wasn't a cakewalk but they where effective there.
