According to Jeremy Fleming, head of the British secret and security service Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), Russian soldiers in Ukraine have refused orders and sabotaged their own equipment.
They even accidentally shot down one of their own planes. "There is evidence that Russian soldiers' morale is low and their equipment is poor," Fleming said.
At the same time, he warned that Russia could try to use mercenaries from the notorious Wagner Group due to the poor morale of its own soldiers. This group is ready to send numerous experienced and newly recruited mercenaries to Ukraine. These could end up as cannon fodder to keep the death toll among soldiers down, Fleming said.
"Putin misjudged the situation massively," Fleming said in a speech in Canberra, Australia, at the Australian National University. This emerges from a transcript of his statements. "We believe that Putin's advisers are afraid to tell him the truth."

As a rule I distrust everything the mainstream Western media say. On the other hand, Russia will obviously try to push its own propaganda. So there is no unbiased source, as it always happens.
Personally I think the Ukrainians have overplayed their had with the lies (like the 13 brave Ukrainian heroes who were allegedly killed by evil Russians on Snake Island after refusing to surrender but who mysteriously came back to life two days later and it turned out they did surrender after all) and they want to push a contradictory narrative in which they are both winning (in order to keep morale high among Ukrainian troops) and losing (in order to pressure the West to send more weapons as soon as possible).
