Matthew 5:21-29
21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell[Gehenna] of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman[gune, also means wife in the greek] with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell[gehenna].

>Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny

Matthew 18:9,23-35
9 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell[Gehenna] of fire...

23 “Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. 24 When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’ 27 And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt. 28 But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’ 29 So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.’ 30 He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt. 31 When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place. 32 Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. 33 And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ 34 And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt. 35 So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.”

Luke 12:5,57-58
5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!...

57 “And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? 58 As you go with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer put you in prison. 59 I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the very last penny.”

>I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the very last penny.

Mark 9:43-48
43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell[Gehenna], to the unquenchable fire. 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell[Gehenna]. 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, 48 ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’

Jesus is qouting Isaiah, lets look at what Isaiah said.

Isaiah 66:23-24
23 From new moon to new moon,
and from Sabbath to Sabbath,
all flesh shall come to worship before me,
declares the Lord.

24 “And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me. For their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”

>And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me
>And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me
>And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me

They died!

Hell is on earth.

Gehenna is in the old testament
The word Gehenna means valley of hinnom, in the new testament they translate it as hell, in the old testament they translate it as hinnom, its a valley in Israel, why is that? They have a theology to sell! (Tophet is in the valley of Hinnom, Jer 7:31)biblehub.com/hebrew/2011.htm
biblehub.com/hebrew/8612.htm

Jeremiah 7:31-32
They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and daughters in the fire—something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind. So beware, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when people will no longer call it Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter, for they will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room.

>of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom
>of Topheth
>in the Valley of Ben Hinnom
hell is a place on earth
you can't have hell being an alternate dimension, and then tophet being inside of it on earth

hinnom is a literal valley
topheth is also in hinnom
in old testament they are real places
in the new testament its an alternate dimension
one of these things is not like the other!

why is a place in hell on earth ?
where LIVING people could sacrifice Children to be fire ?

Forever and Ever in most translation of the bible is a mistranslation. The word there in the Greek is the plural form of the word Aion, which means age. The Greek reads to the ages of the ages in Rev 20:10. Most bible interpreters believe in eternal torment so they believe the Greek phrase to the ages of the ages means forever and ever and thus paraphrase the text as such. This is wrong. Numerous times in the New Testament the word Aion has a beginning, middle and an end. There are aion(plural) in the past, we are in a present aion, and there are going to be aion(plural) in the future, there is also an end(singular) of the aion (plural), and an ends (plural) of the aion (plural). Aion means an age. You cannot have plural past eternities/forevers/everlastings, a present eternity/forever/everlasting, and future plural eternities/forevers/everlastings. But you can have ages (plural) in the past. A present age, and futures ages (plural) culminating in an end of the ages, in which the ends of the ages being complete (multiple ages began and ended until the final age which to will end). The ages will end. There is an end to the ages.

Jesus did not offer people eternal life; he offered them age-abiding life. Understand this; you lose NOTHING by Jesus offering age-abiding life vs. age-abiding punishment. Jesus came to save all; those that have age-abiding life simply get into the kingdom early. The rest have to go through the age abiding punishment before entering into the kingdom. You don’t lose your salvation when the ages end, the rest who did not get age abiding life simply get their salvation later on, from sin and death by being made immortal and justified (he who is justified cannot sin, sin is not reckoned unto his account). Right now only believers are justified and are awaiting immortality.

>Eternal Torment is insane and evil
Then why would God do that?

Eternal torment is the difference between Jesus saving 1% of the world and Jesus saving 100% of the world.

Aion is the noun, which means an age.
Aionios is the adjective form of the noun. [Aionios Life, Aionios Punishment]

Wood is a noun; wooden is the adjective form of the noun. Something that is wooden has the characteristics of wood.

Sponge is a noun; Spongy is the adjective form of the noun. Something that is Spongy has the characteristics of a sponge.

Metal is a noun, Metallic is the adjective form of the noun. Something that is Mettalic has the characteristics of Metal.

Hour Noun, Hourly Adjective
Day Noun, Daily Adjective
Week Noun, Weekly Adjective
Month Noun, Monthly Adjective
Yearly Noun, Yearly Adjective
Aion Noun, Aionios Adjective
Age Noun, Age-Like or Age-Abiding Adjective

Compare that to eternity:
Eternity Noun, Eternal Adjective

You can not have a singular eternity and a plural eternities , you can not have eternities in the past, a present eternity, and future eternities, and an end of the eternities, you can have ages in the past, a present age, ages in the future, and an end to the ages, as well as the ends of the ages (multiple ages have come and gone culminating in the final age which also ends)!

Now this right here is an exceptional thread. It really stands out amongst the low-effort rubbish littering this board. A top quality thread like this is virtually guaranteed to stimulate thoughtful discussion and engage a number of intelligent posters on its way to reaching the bump limit.

All newfags take note: THIS is how you make a fucking thread. Excellent job OP. Keep up the incredible work

>Then why would God do that?
He doesnt

Christanity for the most part is a buisness, and eternal torment is a trillion dollar idea, its good for tithes and offerings and for making others obey your every whim, its good for the state and often teh church in the state are best buds

Christians mistranslate the bible in certain places to make sure there doctrines stay in tact

eternal torment is based on a mistranslation

any bible that translates the words olam aion and aionios will be shunned and deemed heretical

the denominations are not built on the truth but on LIES that make LOTS OF MONEY

what about the lake of fire?

Revelation 20:10
And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, into which the beast and the false prophet had already been thrown. There they will be tormented day and night forever[aion - plural] and[and is not in the greek, the word inbetween the first aion and the second aion is the greek word ton which is the diffinite article and means the] ever[aion -plural].

Here is a more literal Translation

Youngs Literal Translation
and the Devil, who is leading them astray, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where are the beast and the false prophet, and they shall be tormented day and night -- to the ages of the ages.

Concordent Literal New Testament
And the Adversary who is deceiving them was cast into the lake of fire and sulphur, where the wild beast and where the false prophet are also. And they shall be tormented day and night for the eons of the eons."

Emphatic Diaglott
and the accuser the one deceiving them, was cast into the lake of the fire and of the brimstone, where both the wild-beast and the false-prophets; and they will be tormented day and night for the ages of the ages.

Rotherham Emphisized Bible
and, the Adversary that had been deceiving them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where [were] both the wild-beast and the false-prophet; and they shall be tormented, day and night, unto the ages of ages.

Barean Literal Bible
And the devil, the one deceiving them, was cast into the lake of fire and of sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet also are; and they will be tormented day and night to the ages of the ages.

proof that the lake of fire is not forever, the reason it says so in most bibles is a mistranslation of the words olam/aion/aionios (start here then go over to the 2 gospel section at the end)

>The rest have to go through the age abiding punishment before entering into the kingdom.
there is absolutely no biblical justification for this belief. No scripture whatsoever to back this up.

what an odd photo

Matthew 13:50 “And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

Lets talk about furnaces in the old testament.

Deut 4:20
But the LORD has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be a people of his own inheritance, as you are this day.

They weren't literally in a furnace.
They just suffered persecution living in Egypt

Here is another furnace passage.

Jeremiah 11:4 NIV
the terms I commanded your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt, out of the iron-smelting furnace.’ I said, ‘Obey me and do everything I command you, and you will be my people, and I will be your God.

Isaiah 48:10 ESV
Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction.

1 Kings 8:51 ESV
(for they are your people, and your heritage, which you brought out of Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace).

Ez 22:8-22 (too long to qoute)

> 21I will gather you and I will blow on you with my fiery wrath, and you will be melted inside her.
> 22As silver is melted in a furnace, so you will be melted inside her, and you will know that I the Lord have poured out my wrath on you.’ ”

Now what happened? The Babylonians came and sacked the city (I think this is talking about Judah since it mentions Jerusalem), some died and others were exiled.

Now I guess some did die in a fire (since the city was set on fire) but a whole bunch lived and were sent into the Babylonian exile.

>I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the very last penny.

Anything that lasts forever is a torment. Even an eternity in heaven. When I was a kid, the first time I grasped what such a thing really meant I threw up in horror.

Matthew 13:50 “And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

Now lets go back to what Jesus said and examine in now that we know the furnace is not literall but an old testament symbol of persecution.

The Jews will go through the tribulation. When Jesus comes back he will separate the good Jews from the bad Jews. The good Jews will enter the kingdom of Israel. The bad jews will either be killed or kicked out of Israel and forced to live outside of Israel (metaphorically a furnace, or outer darkness, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth because they, the bad Jews did not make it and do not live in Israel when Jesus is ruling and reigning in Israel).

1 The wages of sin is eternal torture, eternal separation from God, or eternal never-ending death.
2 Jesus died on the cross for your sins , he paid the debt in full as a sin offering.
3 Jesus was not tortured forever, or dead forever, or separated from God forever.
4 Ergo the wages of sin is not eternal never-ending torture, eternal never-ending death, or eternal never-ending separation from God. If anyone of these things was the wages of sin Jesus could NEVER rise again from the dead, if eternal torment is the wages of sin Jesus would still be on that cross to this day, if eternal death is the wages of sin Jesus could never be raised back to life, and if the wages of sin is eternal separation from God, Jesus could never return to the Father in heaven. All 3 deny the death, entombment and resurrection 3 days and nights later of Jesus. All 3 deny the atonement of Jesus on that cross. All that happened is that Jesus died, that is the wages of sin, to suffer and then die.

Isaiah 40
New International Version

40 Comfort, comfort my people,
says your God.
2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
and proclaim to her
that her hard service has been completed
that her sin has been paid for,
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
double for all her sins.

If 1 sin = eternal and infinite torture this would be impossible

Notice he did not just pay them according to their sins but paid them DOUBLE! And it still was not forever, eternal or everlasting !

And these are not just the sins of 1 person but a nations!

I feel like I constantly have a fire raging in my chest and stomach because of shitty GABA receptors or something. I'm not anxious about anything in particular but I can fixate on just about anything at all. I think I'm already there. I never have any peace. At least not anymore, drinking would alleviate it but I inevitably took that too far and it was fucking up my life so I had to stop. So now I just have nothing to alleviate it.

>no biblical justification for this belief
The law of God limits how much you can torture !

Deuteronomy 25 :1-3
1 If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.
2And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.
3Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.

The law of God limits how much you can beat a slave.

Exodus 21:20-21-20, 26-27
20 And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.
21 Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.
26 And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye's sake.
27 And if he smite out his manservant's tooth, or his maidservant's tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake.

Will God obey his own laws?

The maximum damage a master of a slave could inflict would be 2 days, if the slave dies the master is to be punished if permanent damage is done and the slave is to go free (so the beating can not induce permanent damage.)

God doesn't "send people to hell."

God is a perfect and sinless being. Think of God as an existential, infinitely positively charged magnet. No matter what force you apply to it, no matter how badly you want it to, no other positively charged magnet can touch it. You could not apply any amount of force to bring another positively charged magnet in contact with God.
Man has the knowledge of good and evil; the ability to decide for ourselves what we want. We are our own God. This is the very essence of sin; to think that you are your own God and to reject his authority. The only way to be in contact with him, metaphysically, is to reject your own authority over yourself and accept his offer to perceive you as without sin through his son Jesus.

If God could come into contact with sin, to be one with sin, then he would not be God. He would not be the ultimate being of light and love. He would not be the logos; he would not be the word. You cannot fault God for rejecting that which he cannot accept: a being which desires to be separate from him. A being that rejects goodness and love in order to have authority over their own life. The bible doesn't describe hell as anything other than pure separation from God eternally. It is not a punishment from God. He is not torturing you eternally. Your soul will be eternally tortured with the knowledge that you are separate from true love.

Take your meds nigger.

The onus is on god to give me a reason to worship. Intimidation isnt going to work
