Now Germany has announced they will deliver euros to an unsanctioned, Gazprom-controlled bank, which will sell the euros for rubles, aka exactly what Russia demanded. That's why RUB is skyrocketing now.

Currently, the gas contract is in Euros/Dollars, meaning the Russians will export 1000L for 400€ (the contract right now). This is obviously good for the holder of the currency, because if the Russians exchange them for rubles, then the gas gets cheaper and cheaper for europe to buy. But if Russia gives a price in Rubles, let's say at present day exchange rate and pricing of 36000rub/1000L, then everything changes. If Russia uses this money to buy rubles, then the european union will have to keep on giving more and more euros; this creates a vicious cycle where the more the europeans spend, the more they have to spend.
Which means people will eventually make ruble reserves to be able to have a favorable exchange rate. this is because people want to be able to predict at what cost they will have to buy things, and not just depend on markets.
This is the very basics of what a contract is. It shields you from uncertainty. And the Russians, if they are indeed doing what I am saying, are making it so that the contracts europoors have signed are almost useless. They are now dependent on the forex at moex, which is extremely volatile to say the least.

Yes but the risk profile and the management strategies are different. If Germans have to take the forex risk now, they'll need to maintain a healthy RUB balance at all times which will result in them stabilizing RUB exchange rate as they try to seek for the best price. It'll also encourage them to use those rubles outside of the gas trade as well as they will have incentives to do so in various scenarios. All this would drive the demand of RUB up and make it a serious global currency alongside the old ones.
