their military wasn't ready, the west was stronger and sanctions would have been worse and implemented by more countries. The Russian economy was more vulnerable and reliance on imports was higher.
Today, post covid, the west is in a shambles, Russian army is better armed and alliances are in place. Their economy has been restructured to resist sanctions, food production does not depend on imports.
