If Germany and Russia entered an economic union, then it would immediately become the #3 economy in the world and within 10 years, the #2 economy in the world.
Germany would supply the money, work ethic, and industries; Russia would provide the oil/gas, poor but highly-educated STEM workers, and land.
It might even be feasible to overtake China and become #1.
